Happy New Year 2024!

Here we are at the beginning of another year! As we make and work at keeping resolutions for our mind and body, let us remember it is all about making a little progress each day and less about getting it perfect.

Do what you can, what your body allows you to do. You will build from there.

Schedule 3-5 minutes at the beginning and end of the day to pray, meditate or practice gratitude. Find a way to move your body that feels good to YOU. Consider walking or dance, these are two of the easiest and low cost ways to start.

Last year I lost 19 pounds just by changing up a few habits. I started walking my dog for short walks in the morning, on my lunch break and the first thing upon getting home after work. Once that became a habit, I added in intermittent fasting 3 days a week.

Don’t feel like you have to follow the latest trends in fitness. You do you. If you need help figuring out where to start, reach out. A coaching call may be all you need to get going.

Peace and love in 2024! ~Lisa

Shoes: My coach (every coach needs a coach right) always taught me that your feet are your foundation.

If you are training with shoes that are older than three months, I urge you to take a look at the bottom of your shoes and how they are worn or are wearing. Most shoes are not designed to last more than three months. Be aware they also break down on the inside of the shoe, so the wear and tear may not be visible. If your shins, calves, feet, knees hurt after wearing them they are probably due for a replacement.

Fitness Trackers: I want to urge to train with a fitness tracker. There are so many benefits for your work out. Zone in on your target heart rate, know exactly where you’re at during your workout.

Training with a fitness tracker is like training with a GPS. It tells you exactly where to go during your workout whether you need to ramp it up or scale back and modify. You’ll know exactly where you need to be with a fitness tracker. You’ll also be able to track progress which is key.

You can find a great deal on basics like bands, dumbbells, treadmills, ellipticals and even vibration plates. (The price on these have come down now that they’re making home versions). Great for rehab and cutting your workout time in half!

Easy to make your own!

My favorite is a simple recipe with Ceylon cinnamon, quality vanilla and organic almonds.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup water

4 cups oatmeal (not quick or instant)

2 teaspoons natural honey

1-2 tablespoons Ceylon cinnamon

This is the basic recipe you can do extra add ins of your choice for variety.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Combine brown sugar and water in a large bowl, heat and stir every minute to dissolve.

2. Add oatmeal and mix until well coated. Add cinnamon and honey and any other add-ins, mix well.

3. Line two baking sheets with sides (high enough to stir so it doesn’t spill over the edges) with parchment paper. Thinly layer the granola onto both sheets.

4. Bake at 350 for 30 and stir every 10 minutes.

5. Allow to cool completely and store in an air tight container.

KEEPS FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS.
